Do you know the name Alfred Hajós? Our first modern Olympic champion won Hungary’s first gold medal in freestyle swimming back in 1896.
However, few people know that he was also an excellent athlete and a great footballer. The most surprising career was not his however, but that of Bud Spencer, star of the Piedone films. The actor, famous for his big punches, was born Carlo Pedersoli in Naples, where he began his swimming career as a child. He has two Italian championship titles to his name as well as a European Championship medal, although he won the latter as a member of the Italian water polo team. After his sporting successes, he left the pool in 1967 to begin his Hollywood career, and the rest we know from the silver screen. It is rare to see successful careers in more than one field, but it is not unprecedented.
Something similar happened at a restaurant in Veszprém called Gusto 13. For those who know a little about local gastronomy, the name Chianti might mean something. This was for a long time the name of a fine dining restaurant in a quiet part of town. Today, however, you would search in vain for this place in a restaurant guide.
The owners have given the place a whole new style; the only thing they refused to compromise on was the quality of the food. Speaking of food! There is also a small shop in town called Gusto Delicate, where you can buy the ingredients used in the restaurant as well as a range of specialties, including rare craft beers.
