The opening night marks a special anniversary: the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra celebrates its 40th birthday with a festive gala concert featuring Kristóf Baráti, Klára Kolonits, János Balázs and László Fenyő, joined by the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra.
This year’s special guest is British cello legend Steven Isserlis, performing Haydn’s C major Cello Concerto, while Swedish a cappella ensemble The Real Group will dazzle audiences with their virtuosic jazz performance. Rising Czech violin star Josef Špaček performs an intimate chamber concert with pianist Miroslav Sekera within the historic walls of the County Hall.
For the first time in Hungary, the globally acclaimed quartet Les Égarés (“The Strayed”) will take to the stage: Ballaké Sissoko (kora), Vincent Segal (cello), Vincent Peirani (accordion), and Émile Parisien (saxophone) unite to form a one-of-a-kind world music ensemble.
Fans of Baroque music can look forward to the concert by bassoonist József Auer and cellist András Péter Kárász in St. Michael’s Cathedral. Children and families will be delighted by Izabella Simon’s interactive musical storytelling show, Mother Goose’s Tales.
This year also marks the debut of the Prometheus Quartet, formed by young talents, and a spectacular crossover concert featuring jazz icons the Klazz Brothers, the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, and the fantastic Cuba Percussion ensemble. Music historian and presenter Ádám Bősze will also appear with his unique educational flair.
One of the festival's most vibrant events promises to be the dance house led by András Nagy Csomor and Roby Lakatos – a celebration where Carpathian folk and café-style Gypsy music meet world music in a dazzling musical fusion.
Concert venues include some of the most iconic sites in Veszprém and Balatonfüred – from the Hangvilla and County Hall to the Cathedral, the museum, and the House of Jewish Excellence – creating a vibrant dialogue between classical heritage and contemporary creativity.
