The Mirror – Face to Face exhibition series, now in its eleventh edition, has become a recognized international event in the field of contemporary printmaking. Over the years, alongside the constant presence of Italian artists, numerous foreign participants have exhibited their works in Vicenza, representing the most important directions in contemporary graphic art.
This year, Hungary is the guest of honour – a country with a long-standing cultural and artistic connection to Italy. Thus, Mirror – Face to Face becomes a meeting of old friends in a Europe that is trying to redefine itself at the dawn of the digital age and artificial intelligence.
In a selection curated by Szonja Dohnál, 27 Hungarian artists (in cooperation with the Ajka Graphic Workshop and Tibor Csabai), and 27 Italian artists selected by Valeria Bertesina and Roberto Nassi, enter into an artistic dialogue. The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the current state of contemporary printmaking. It gives insight into the world of creative studios, presents sources of inspiration and preferred techniques, and balances tradition with experimentation. This art project also creates an opportunity to foster dialogue between artists of both countries.
Visitors are invited to explore the works through a kaleidoscope of subjective perspectives, discovering shared elements and overlaps that transcend individual and national characteristics—whether through symbolic references, abstract or figurative styles, multimedia approaches, or meticulous traditional techniques. Without thematic or technical constraints, the exhibition provides space for free artistic expression and experimental combinations that go beyond the boundaries of traditional printmaking.
The exhibition will take place at two venues: Palladian Villa Caldogno (Caldogno, Vicenza, Italy) and the Dubniczay Palace (House of Arts Veszprém, Hungary), near Lake Balaton. In October, the series will continue at the Cultural Centre in Ajka, Hungary.
