Dr. Zoltán Korsós, zoologist and former director-general of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, spent three years (2009-2021) in Japan’s subtropical Ryukyu archipelago between as a guest researcher at the University of the Ryukyus. He visited 53 of the 60 inhabited islands, where he studied the biology of soil-dwelling arthropods. His singular experiences first appeared in his blog, and were later brought before the public in a book based on it. The pioneering publication seeks to introduce readers to this distant, almost unknown world, its local people, isolated and unique cultures, and its exotic, rare wildlife. From the 50,000 photographs taken during his stay, fifty were selected for this photography exhibition, offering a narrow cross-section of the Ryukyu archipelago. The exhibition is presented with the support of the Hungarian Natural History Museum.
