Zoologist Dr. Zoltán Korsós, former Director General of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, spent three years (2009–2012) in the subtropical archipelago of southern Japan at the invitation of the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa. He visited fifty-three of the sixty inhabited islands, studying the biology of ground-dwelling arthropods. He first shared his unique experiences on his blog and later in a book based on that material. This pioneering volume aims to introduce interested audiences to this distant, virtually unknown world—its local people, isolated and unique cultures, and exotic, rare wildlife. This exhibition, which presents a curated glimpse of the Ryukyu archipelago, features fifty selected images from the 50,000 photographs taken during his time there and is presented with the support of the Hungarian Natural History Museum.
