From this year onwards, the Kyōsō Japanese Festival aims to provide a platform for talented young Hungarian artists whose work is significantly inspired by Japanese culture. The first artist to be featured in this new initiative is painter and paintings conservator-restorer Hanna Bernát-Hinkó, who presents a selection of her watercolours at the Dubniczay Palace.
In Japanese symbolism, the red spider lily is associated with death, letting go and new beginnings, while the koi carp is most commonly associated with perseverance, courage and good fortune.
Together, these two motifs, symbolising complementary emotions, embody the cycle of life itself. Throughout our lives, all we can do is move forward with our wounds and allow them to shape our character through the ways in which we face and overcome them. In our vulnerability and fragility, we search for the “whys”. We are all in a state of flux, like fish. In ever-changing waters.
