The next phase of the Veszprém Castle District investment project began in February 2024, affecting most of the buildings within the Veszprém Castle complex.
Outside of working hours, Vár utca is open to visitors from 5:00 p.m. on weekdays until 6:00 a.m. the following morning, as well as all day on weekends and public holidays, outside the areas cordoned off by construction fencing and guarded.
The primary route of the construction is Szabadság Square-Rákóczi Ferenc Street-Óváros Square-Vár Street.
Construction work began in April 2022, and during the 2023 ECF year, only minor internal construction and restoration work that did not interfere with public traffic on Vár Street could be carried out in order to ensure the smooth flow of tourist traffic and the implementation of programs.
With the end of the European Capital of Culture year, construction work continued on a larger scale. In order to complete the work, several hundred people and 30-50 trucks will work in coordination from Monday to Friday to ensure that the entire castle reconstruction is carried out with minimal disruption to the population and traffic.
