Via ferrata, Csesznek

Hungary’s first via ferrata (protected climbing route, literally iron path) takes you to the foot of the castle in Csesznek. The nearby castle is 700 years old and can be visited all year round. It rises 60 metres above the road to Csesznek.

The first via ferrata, at that time out of wood, was built on the slopes of Mount Auguille in 1492. During the First World War, new impetus was given in the Dolomites to the construction of mountain pathways secured with cables, to move troops and supplies more easily and efficiently. Since that time, this kind of climbing has spread across Europe as a sport, a simpler, safer kind of rock climbing providing access to wonderful mountain environments. There are currently 10 routes available in Csesznek, in 3 places, from B/C level to E/F. There are guided via ferrata tours available in Csesznek too.
