It is difficult to think of anything you can’t find in Veszprém.
For example, there is even a dragon in the city! However, for some reason, everything in Veszprém has a twist, something that’s different from usual, which is what makes the city exciting to discover. There, is for example, the case of the dragon. With its yellowish-brown scales, spiky wings and long tail, it really does resemble a fairytale monster. However, Veszprém’s dragon has water shooting out of its mouth instead of fire.
If you don’t believe it, you can see it for yourself in the Oliva restaurant’s garden, where the place’s guardian, the water-spouting dragon, is watching right opposite the gate. We can’t promise that it will be easy to find this Mediterranean-style restaurant if you are unfamiliar with Veszprém. If only because the street it lies on is also named after concealment. To be more precise, the strange word “buhim” means refuge. Yet it’s actually right in the middle of the city, just a minute’s walk away from the historic Óváros Square.
The choice of name is no coincidence, as the restaurant’s interior and exterior atmosphere is Italian, while the menu is more fusion cuisine. The owner is not afraid to think big. When he bought the building in 1997, it was still a rundown, dilapidated house, albeit one that was nearly 200 years old. According to archival documents, it has been home to a shoemaker, a turner and an umbrella maker. Today, visitors from far and wide hand the doorknob on the restaurant’s large wooden door onto each other.
Who would have thought that this secluded little building would now be home to one of Veszprém’s most popular restaurants? Although, who would have thought that Veszprém would ever have dragons?
