The Orfeo Orchestra is the finest authentic performer of early music compositions in Hungary. Under the baton of György Vashegyi, the orchestra has repeatedly performed "premieres" of Hungarian music on period instruments. The Purcell Choir is regarded as the premier early music ensemble in Hungarian music, with music from the Gesualdo-Mozart period forming the backbone of its repertoire, but they also perform later compositions on numerous occasions.
