The roots of VeszprémFest date back to the early 2000s. It was then, while sipping a glass of wine spritzer in one of the city’s shady beer gardens, that festival director Zoltán Mészáros came up with the idea of bringing international stars like Pavarotti, or later Paco de Lucia, Ramon Vargas, Craig David or even Roger Hodgson to Veszprém. Showcasing world-class musical productions, VeszprémFest is a regular fixture in Veszprém for the month of July.
The idea was soon followed by action, and in 2004, VeszprémFest’s success story began. It was initially known to the public as Veszprém Festive Games. As well as those previously mentioned, the multi-day, premium summer festival has also hosted the likes of Emeli Sandé, Richard Bona, Kool & The Gang and, most recently, Tom Jones.
The unique experience of the VeszprémFest is not only due to the star musicians’ original music, but also thanks to the environs of the concerts. These were held in the castle for many years, directly in front of the Archbishop’s Palace, while in the last few years, visitors have been able to enjoy these special concerts in the Historia Garden with its panorama of the castle.
VeszprémFest offers something new each year, with the organisers constantly expanding its programme. Since 2011, the Rosé, Rizling, Jazz Days has been added to the side events in Óváros Square, while in the last few years, there have been classical music concerts in the park next to the historic Jesuit Monastery in Veszprém Valley, also organised by VeszprémFest.
