In the city centre of Veszprém, the Green City (Zöld-város) is situated in the district once known as the “Inner Bishop’s Garden” (Belső Püspökkert) bordered by Egyetem utca (Street) –Megyeház tér (Square)–Erzsébet sétány (promenade) –Erzsébet liget (park), home to many of the city’s important institutions and tourist attractions.
In the shady downtown recreation park, an event area open only to pedestrian traffic awaits visitors between Kálvária-domb (Calvary Hill) of Szent-Miklós szeg and the Dezső Laczkó Museum. The stone stairs and ramp leading to the church ruins on the hilltop run along the axis of the main entrance of the museum.
The new café built in the southwestern corner of Megyeház tér well contrasts the retaining walls and the green environment of Kálvária-domb with its moderate use of materials and simple but characteristic mass formation.
The most modern playground of Veszprém’s downtown is also located here, where people can relax in the shade of chestnut trees on outdoor street furniture.
